Prada Loves Market

Now here's one market i'd love to visit! Miuccia Prada is an original thinker alright... the fashion house decided to throw a party in... well, a wet market... the kind that sells fresh produce and meat! of course they probably clean and scrubbed the whole place like never before...

the tables are scattered all over the area. even though its a wet market initially, the place is nothing short of luxe. I'd expect more than half if not all of the people who were invited to the party probably has never stepped into a market before.. let alone eat in one.. hahahha

what's even more interesting though, isthe fact that they left some of the stalls intact... while some other displays prada's work. like this one below that showcases the turban in various alluring colors... *yummy*

p.s. its been confirmed that fashionerd is heading down under once again! (translation: no more stockist hunting)

in no particular order...

1. Nicola Finetti
The man (its a man if you, like many out there didnt know it just yet) just makes some of the most gorgeous dresses out there. The little black dress.... how boring, right? but i just can't get enough of it. This version by Nicola Finetti will be my little black dress for this season.

2. Alice McCall
The brand is a big hit with australian voguettes season after season. However, it seems that McCall has not been able to recreate the hype that Love Is A Drug dress has created. This dress has not got a mention in the vogue forum (not yet anyway). I'd be perfectly happy if I am the only person who likes the dress. Very sexy austronaut! :P

3. Carly Turland
Is that an insect i see in the middle of the dress?? heh... interesting details! (thank you l. for pointing out the dress ;))

4. Melanie Cutfield
I just love black details on a white dress. This dress also comes in plain black which is just as gorgeous but this version takes the cakes.

5. Anna Thomas
Very Marni lookalike! Me likey! Now this is a dress that I will probably buy for the wrong reasons. So I loveeeeeee Marni, but there's no way in the near future i would spend a grand on a dress. Handbag? Yes. Dress? nop... sorry.

6. Melly
There's no other color that says "summer" better than yellow and again, black details. The way the model poses probably makes the dress farrr cuter than what it really is though...

7. Nevenka
Even though I am looking forward to the whole vintage trend to fades (never get past the whole "it used to belong to someone else" thing), the kind of vintage influences on dresses are just too dear. I do love the vintage wannabes more than the real vintage. Mustard yellow might seem a little dull for summer, but look at this dress!!! imagine how cute it'll be to wear this and sit by the road somewhere sipping coffee while doing the all important people-watching? ;P

8. Shakuhachi
I hate pink! i've said that many many times. but i do admit that i love the stronger shades of pink thats popping up this season!

9. Lisa Ho
I have never worn a full length dress nor do i own one anywhere in my closet. But if i ever decides to wearone this season i;d like it to be this metallics one by Lisa Ho.

10. Matthew Eager
Ok, so a full length metallic dress might not do anything good to my proportions at all. This black one (i know i knowwwww, i just love black too much) by Matthew Eager might just be the more sensible yet still sexy choice.

(too lazy too make screen caps... its was a dissapointing collection in my opinion. but my opinion about Lover always change whenever i see the pieces in person. i think Lover's stuff are all about details that you cant really pick out when its photographed. Based on the pictures so far, the only thing that i think i will get is probably the checkered shirt.)

One of the designer behind this label is Alice McCall's sister (only relevant if you know who Alice McCall is, of course) who is also showing later in the festival.

Remember Helmut Lang? The man who made the skinny skinny jeans, but later sold his name to the Prada Group only to walk out a little later.

The continuation of that story was that Prada sold the brand once again, because it wasnt producing enough money of course, to some Japanese company who has now hired Nicole and Michael Colovos (who also walked out of a label they founded, Habitual. but that is another little story) as the creative director.

Hush hush, the Japanese company actually asked Lang to come back but it was said that he "respectfully declined". sigh.

Sans Lang himself aside, i think the new collection is very appealing and wearable. Somehow I can actually feel Lang in the s/s07 collection but it is still very much the Colovos'. The hardcore Lang fans might not approve just yet, but for those who are less of an elitist, it may be time to give your plastic a little work out.

I was like a lil child in a candy store yesterday as i stepped into the Marc by Marc Jacobs store in Ngee Ann City, Orchard rd yesterday~ yes, singaporean folks... its finally opens... the fact that club21 has carried the brand since forever did not make this any less exciting for me... hehe... sad though that miss marc tote was not in the store so i walked out empty handed...but there were hordes of people trying on the sunnies (which i didnt really like)... anyway, no pics cause no cameras (note to self: bring your camera out shopping more!)... :P

shoes by mihara yasuhiro... isnt just perfect?? i've loved it since i saw it on Biyan's* feet when he appears in some indonesian fashion magazine for some friendship related article... I saw it in Asylum - ann siang hill a couple days ago which is when it hits me... i dont think it came in womens sizing... and never in a million years my tiny little feet could fill in even the smallest mens shoes... :(

i'm tempted to buy a pair for "decoration"... i guess we'll see how this lemming holds...

having just recently relocate back in Singapore from Down Under, i am having some serius culture shock. Singapore to me means one thing... Orchard rd! i basically walk all the way from Forum down to Paragon every single day everytime i happen to be in town.. which is just perfect for someone who is short on time but has a long shopping list to fulfil... but since i am to live here semi-permanently this time... i decided that its time to explore the island a little...

so i trek all the way to Ann Siang Hill..
the place has been recommended by many.. which include locals, guide books and even blogger fashionisspinach!

shop#1 - style:nordic
racks and racks of filippak, one wall of nudie jeans and various other similar looking clothes from other scandinavian designers... and a lil bit of houseware (which i think was a bit out of place seeing that there was only such a small collection of it) service-wise.. the owner seems to be in the middle of an interview of some sort (either that he has some stalker as customer... :P) there was another guy behind the counter but all he did, really, was checking his own hair in front of the mirror...

shop#2 - asylum
various weird books (advance economics being displayed next to poetry books??), a very cool collections of cds (i bought directorsound ( http://www.myspace.com/directorsound )... have to go back for "random").. mihara yasuhiro shoes (i'll find a picture later) and some other random things... service... the girl was all smiley which was nice (the fact that she complimented on my handbag probably score her many many points)
overall cool shop with even cooler music...

shop#3 - front row
first floor was a cafe... but they give off this aura that says "DONT ORDERRRR!!!" maybe its just me..
second floor...APC, eley kishimoto, and cds...
i'm sure they have third floor that is a gallery of some sort but i really felt not welcomed that i just had to flee right away...

there are a couple more shops that i went to but just couldnt recall anymore...

there are some nice stuff that i might just go back for... but overall it was definitely underwhelming... i definitely didnt expect it to be like those small lanes in melbourne thats filled with treasures... but even compared to perth suburb it was just simply plain... nothing to be excited about...

a bigggg minus was also the cold stares i get from the shop assistant... i'm not expecting the usual "hihowareyou" "whatreyouuptotoday" type of conversation that i get when i was in Ausies... but can these people at least smile???? is that too much to ask??? SERIOUSLY!!!!!! can someone explain it to me?????

anyway... my next "trek outside orchard" will be to the guerilla store! not sure when... but i will.. i've promised myself... :P

speaking of orchard... i'm still anxiously waiting for marc by marc jacobs to open this month... has it? has it not??

I ALWAYS KEPT IN MIND THE PRECEDENCE OF SOME DESIGNERS I ADMIRE WHO WERE IN A SIMILAR SITUATION, AND CHOSE THE OTHER PATH. PERHAPS IN ANOTHER TIME IN MY LIFE, UNDER OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES, MY NAME, AND THE MANAGEMENT OF A COMPANY UNDER MY OWN LABEL WOULD BE CONSIDERED DIFFERENTLY. RIGHT NOW I FEEL IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO STAY TRUE TO MY PRINCIPLES, AND THE IDEA I HAVE OF FASHION.

on another note, dior homme has also announced slimane successor... Kris Van Assche the belgian guy who used to work with Slimane in Yves Saint Laurent and Dior Homme. a safe choice it seems? Looking at his current collection he seems quite different to Dior Homme.. more distinctively, he uses colours and dont exactly have that skinny skinny silhouette and london rocker look that Dior Homme is famous for... it might be interesting to watch whether he would transform Dior Homme completely or continue with what Slimane has started..

my eyes, however, will be peeled on Hedi Slimane instead. news is he wants a signature line... complete with a womens line.. yay! i wonder how long we will have to wait though... i mean.. it takes Tom Ford three years! and i believe Ford is a much better businessman than Slimane...

by Limi Yamamoto, daughter of Yohji Yamamoto. This, apparently, would be her last collection in tokyo as she will be showing in paris next season. Love the play on proportions and choice of color (or the lack of... whichever you prefer). Yohji influence on her, i reckon, is very apparent.
